Encuentran un nuevo virus en China y advierten que tiene “potencial pandémico”.

El virus fue detectado cuando la infección se propagó en personas que trabajaban en mataderos y en la industria porcina. Los investigadores temen que pueda expandirse fácilmente y desencadenar otra pandemia.

Un grupo de científicos chinos ha descubierto una mutación del virus de la influenza con potencial de convertirse en una pandemia, informan los medio británicos The Guardian y BBC, donde se apunta que los cerdos son los portadores del denominado G4-EA-H1N1, con alto índice de transmisión en humanos.

Según el medio británico BBC, el virus denominado G4-EA-H1N1 ya registró los primeros casos entre trabajadores de mataderos y de la industria porcina en China, a quienes se les administraron vacunas contra la influenza A-H1N1, pero los primeros resultados no mostraron mejoría en los infectados.

Lo preocupante es que ya se registraron numerosos casos de G4-EA-H1N1 entre trabajadores de mataderos en China, de acuerdo a la investigación publicada en Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, una revista especializada estadounidense de alto renombre entre la comunidad científica.

En la misma se asegura que uno de cada 10 trabajadores de la industria porcina china están infectados. Se detalla que algunos de estos enfermos han sido vacunados contra la influenza A-H1N1 para probar los resultados, sin éxito en el combate al virus. Por lo que se hace un llamado a implementar rápidamente medidas para controlar el virus en los cerdos y monitorear de cerca a las poblaciones de trabajo.

G4-EA-H1N1 tiene todo para ser una catástrofe

Si bien advierten que no es un riesgo inmediato, sí afirman que este G4-EA-H1N1 tiene todos los componentes de una “posible catástrofe” de no estudiarse con celeridad y exactitud, ya que entre sus características está el alto nivel de contagio que, en caso de propagarse, podría ser de graves consecuencias porque se trata de un nuevo virus para el que difícilmente la gente tendría inmunidad.
