La NASA lanz贸 el cohete que buscar谩 vida en Marte y lleva el nombre de la Escuela Industrial

Ya comenz贸 la misi贸n Perseverance Rover. Se espera la llegada al planeta rojo para el 18 de febrero pr贸ximo.

Como estaba previsto,聽la NASA lanz贸 esta ma帽ana la misi贸n Perseverance Rover, que intentar谩 trasladar a Marte un robot聽con el tama帽o de un autom贸vil destinado a buscar vida en el planeta. El cohete Atlas V聽lleva adem谩s el nombre de pasajeros virtuales, entre los que figura la Escuela Industrial Domingo Faustino

“Es un d铆a hermoso”,聽anunci贸 la agencia espacial de Estados Unidos聽desde el centro espacial Kennedy de Cabo Ca帽averal, en Florida, mientras comenzaba la cuenta regresiva para el lanzamiento del Perseverance cuya fecha estimada de llegada a聽Marte es el 18 de febrero de 2021.

El Perseverance, que pesa alrededor de una tonelada, mide 3 metros de largo y 2,2 de alto,聽llegar谩 a Marte a bordo del cohete Atlas y permanecer谩 un a帽o marciano -dos terrestres- explorando el planeta, inform贸 la NASA.

Esta misi贸n ser谩 la primera que la NASA realiza para buscar “firmas biol贸gicas” en Marte desde la misi贸n Viking que lanz贸 en la d茅cada del 麓70.聽A poco de despegar, ya se pod铆an ver las transmisiones del Atlas desde el espacio y que mostraban im谩genes perfectas y claras de la Tierra.

“Esta es la primera vez en la historia en la que estamos yendo a Marte con la misi贸n expl铆cita de encontrar vida en otro mundo,聽la vida antigua en Marte”, dijo ayer Jim Bridenstine, administrador de la NASA.

“Noto el sonido retumbante y profundo en mi pecho cuando se lanza el cohete”, escribi贸 en su cuenta de Twitter la doctora Mae Jemison,聽la primera mujer afrodescendiente en viajar al espacio en 1992, mientras observa el lanzamiento de la nave. Jemison fue una de las anfitrionas de la transmisi贸n que sigui贸 en vivo el lanzamiento de la nave.

Jasmin Moghbeli, otra de las astronautas que particip贸 como anfitriona del lanzamiento, explic贸 que el Perseverance聽lleva una placa de aluminio pegada en la que se honra el esfuerzo que el personal de salud est谩 haciendo en todo el mundo para combatir el coronavirus.

“隆El nombre Perseverance es tan apropiado! En caso de que te lo hayas perdido, esta placa de aluminio est谩 unida a @NASAPersevere para conmemorar el impacto de la pandemia de COVID-19 y rendir homenaje a la perseverancia de los trabajadores de la salud en todo el mundo. 隆Gracias por todo lo que hacen!”, escribi贸 la astronauta en su cuenta de Twitter junto con una imagen de la Vara de Esculapio, s铆mbolo de la medicina, debajo del mundo.

La nave carga tambi茅n el nombre de la escuela sanjuanina, gracias al aporte de聽Miguel Angel Moreno, quien es f铆sico at贸mico y espacial聽y,聽luego de egresar de la 鈥楨IDFS鈥, curs贸 estudios universitarios en California, su actual lugar de residencia.聽En reconocimiento a esa etapa de su vida es que el cient铆fico de la NASA hizo que el nombre del establecimiento educativo llegar谩 nada menos que al planeta vecino聽a trav茅s de聽la campa帽a que promovi贸 la NASA denominada 鈥楨nv铆a tu nombre a Marte鈥.

El objetivo del Perseverance es recolectar muestras de roca y tierra,聽las cuales ser谩n almacenadas en tubos para que en el futuro puedan ser trasladas a la Tierra por otra misi贸n.

Con esta misi贸n, la NASA聽busca estudiar la geolog铆a de Marte para que en futuras incursiones se pueda producir ox铆geno a partir del di贸xido de carbono que se encuentra en la atm贸sfera del planeta.聽El Perseverance recorrer谩 el llamado cr谩ter Jezero, que mide unos 49 kil贸metros de di谩metro y est谩 ubicado al norte del ecuador del planeta.

El Perseverance聽lleva tambi茅n el Ingenuity, un peque帽o helic贸ptero del tama帽o de un dron y que pesa apenas 1,8 kilos,聽con el que la NASA intentar谩 concretar el primer vuelo propulsado en Marte.
