El empresario argentino Hugo Sigman anunció que ya recibió un pedido para producir en el país al menos 150 millones de dosis de la vacuna contra el coronavirus desarrollada por la Universidad de Oxford y que su valor rondará los 4 dólares.
En su cuenta de Twitter, Sigman informó que su laboratorio, mAbxience, paralizó su producción habitual de medicamentos para dedicarse por completo a la producción de la vacuna que está desarrollando Oxford junto con la farmacéutica mexicana AstraZeneca, la cual ya le encargó la fabricación de “un mínimo de 150 millones de dosis y un máximo de 250 millones de dosis ad referéndum de que los estudios clínicos den resultados positivos” y siempre que la vacuna “sea aprobada por las agencias regulatorias correspondientes, incluida la ANMAT”.
Sigman aclaró que “hasta ahora no ha concluido ninguno de los estudios clínicos de las vacunas que están en desarrollo en diferentes países, ni la de AstraZeneca ni ninguna otra”.
En sus posteos, el director ejecutivo de Grupo Insud aseguró que mAbxience “interrumpió” su producción habitual “para dedicar la planta enteramente a la producción de la vacuna, adquirimos equipos y tecnología y pusimos a todo el equipo a disposición, de modo que también corremos riesgo si la vacuna no resulta efectiva”.
Y luego agregó que a pesar de ese riesgo confía en que “las pruebas serán exitosas y estamos orgullosos de poder ser parte de este proyecto”.
La vacuna de Oxford es una de las más avanzadas y el acuerdo con el Grupo Insud para la producción local había sido anunciado por el presidente Alberto Fernández el pasado 12 de agosto.
“Mabxience se encargará de fabricar el principio activo (la materia prima) de la vacuna de Oxford AstraZeneca. Una vez concluido, el producto será entregado a AstraZeneca, que lo enviará a México, donde el laboratorio Liomont se ocupará de fraccionarlo y envasarlo. Desde allí, AstraZeneca distribuirá la vacuna de manera equitativa en América Latina (con excepción de Brasil, que llegó a un acuerdo por separado). El precio comprometido es de 4 dólares, sustancialmente menor al de las vacunas de otras compañías”, agregó Sigman horas más tarde de que Rusia anunciara que la vacuna Sputnik V alcanzó 92% de efectividad.
Sigman aclaró que de todos modos “es AstraZeneca quien vende la vacuna. Ni mAbxience ni Liomont pueden vender la vacuna, ni a gobiernos ni a privados”.
Además, adelantó que la Fundación Slim, de México, y parte del acuerdo con AstraZeneca, “se ha comprometido a financiar las primeras 30 millones de dosis de vacuna a riesgo, lo que significa que si las pruebas fracasan las vacunas se destruirán”.
