Netflix amarroca chances y Disney tiene a la favorita

Ayer se dio a conocer la lista de candidatas. El 25 de abril será la gala.

Con filmes que estrenaron atravesados por la pandemia (y sus restricciones, que las plataformas pudieron sortear y hasta aprovechar, no así los estudios que dependen de las salas de cine; situación que originó varios encontronazos) y una ceremonia distinta que contará con segmentos presenciales y otros virtuales; y que además tendrá lugar recién el 25 de abril (lejos del clásico y dorado febrero), la industria del cine ya prepara las mejores galas para su “gran fiesta gran”. Atípico todo, pero Oscar al fin. La carrera hacia los premios más sonados de la industria recobró cuerpo ayer, cuando la Academia de Hollywood dio a conocer finalmente la lista de los nominados, donde si bien no hay grandes sorpresas -según advierte la crítica especializada- sí cuenta con varias notas sobresalientes.

Una de las perlitas es que la imparable Netflix acumula 35 candidaturas y con esto no sólo se pone a la cabeza de las nominaciones, sino que además bate su propio récord de la mano de Mank, El juicio de los siete de Chicago y La madre del blues, por citar sólo su “power trío”. Con esta cifra, el gigante de streaming le saca enorme ventaja a su principal competidor, Disney, que reunió 15 chances, seguido de Amazon, con 12. Eso sí, Disney tiene en la manga a Nomadland, que podría llevarse el galardón a Mejor película… si es que Mank -de Netflix y con presencia en más categorías- se lo permite. Nomadland también ostenta otra perlita y es que su directora es una de las dos mujeres que este año compiten en la realización, un hecho histórico.

Y en cuanto a Argentina, vale recordar que no habrá un crédito local para alentar frente a las pantallas, porque este año Los sonámbulos quedó afuera ya en la preselección para de Película de habla no inglesa.

  • El gigante rojo

Lo hizo de nuevo. 35 nominaciones, bate su récord y le saca varias cabezas de ventaja (más del doble) a Disney. El servicio de streaming Netflix Inc lo logró con 16 de sus películas, incluidas Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7 y Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Muchos de los filmes aspirantes al Oscar de este año se estrenaron en servicios de streaming debido a que las salas de cine cerraron por la pandemia global de coronavirus. Walt Disney Co recibió 15 nominaciones, que incluyeron seis para “Nomadland”, que se está proyectando tanto en cines como en streaming por Hulu, y tres por la película animada de Pixar “Soul” en Disney Plus. Y Amazon Studios obtuvo una nominación en la carrera a mejor película por “Sound of Metal” y 12 nominaciones en total, poco en comparación pero un récord para la compañía.

La pulseada está planteada y nadie pierde las esperanzas de escalar posiciones a la hora de contar las estatuillas cosechadas la noche del 25 de abril. Es que no sería la primera vez que un favorito se va con las manos vacías; y de hecho le pasó al mismo Netflix el año pasado (cuando acumuló 24 nominaciones, contra 22 de Disney y 20 de Sony). Fue en esa edición que El Irlandés -una de sus producciones más mimadas, con 10 candidaturas- regresó a casa con las manos vacías.

Así es, no está todo dicho todavía… aunque es cierto que no es nada fácil hacerle sombra a casi tres docenas de chances que ostenta la N roja… ¿verdad?

  • ELLAS HACEN HISTORIA

En los 92 años de los Oscar, apenas cinco mujeres -una por edición- han sido candidatas a Mejor dirección y solo una ganó: Kathryn Bigelow, por “The Hurt Locker” (2010). Ahora, las dos que compiten con Thomas Vinterbeg (“Another round’), David Fincher (“Mank’) y Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari’) hacen historia. Son Chloé Zhao  por “Nomadland” y Emerald Fennell por “Promising Young Woman”. Ambas encabezan un total de 70 mujeres nominadas en esta edición, un récord para la Academia de Hollywood que evidentemente trabaja en su intento por mejorar la representación femenina en los apartados técnicos, un reclamo de larga data.
