Venezuela eliminará seis ceros a su moneda, anuncia nuevos billetes y el Bolívar Digital

“A partir del 1 de octubre de 2021 entrará en vigencia el Bolívar Digital, al aplicar una escala monetaria que suprime seis (6) ceros a la moneda nacional. Es decir, todo importe monetario y todo aquello expresado en moneda nacional, se dividirá entre un millón (1.000.000)”, informó el Banco Central venezolano.

La decisión, que constituye la tercera reconversión monetaria en 13 años, busca “facilitar” el uso del bolívar, golpeado por una inflación acumulada de 264,8% entre enero y mayo según el BVC, llevándolo a “una escala monetaria más sencilla”, continuó el texto.

En ese marco, la entidad anunció la emisión de cinco nuevos billetes de 5, 10, 20, 50 y 100 bolívares y una moneda de 1 que entrarán en vigencia en la misma fecha, informó el ministro de Comunicación e Información, Freddy Ñáñez, a través de Twitter.

La medida era esperada por expertos en medio de una espiral inflacionaria que cerró en 2020 con 2.959,8% de inflación acumulada y en 2019 con 9.585,5%, según datos del BCV.

En Venezuela, el efectivo en bolívares escasea y es usual ver largas filas en los bancos.

Cada vez es más común que los precios en cualquier comercio estén reflejados en dólares y los pagos se hagan en divisas.

Para pagar en moneda local se hace normalmente a través de tarjeta de débito o transferencia bancaria.

En agosto de 2018 entró en vigencia el cono monetario actual después de que el presidente Nicolás Maduro anunciara el mes anterior la eliminación de cinco ceros a la moneda local para “facilitar transacciones”.

Ese cono monetario se amplió por última vez en marzo pasado.

Una década antes, en 2008, durante el gobierno del fallecido presidente Hugo Chávez (1999-2013) se habían eliminado tres ceros al bolívar.
