Lionel Messi no seguirá siendo jugador de Barcelona, de acuerdo con lo informado por la institución catalana este jueves en un comunicado oficial.

De esta forma, el rosarino, de 34 años, puso fin a un vínculo iniciado en el 2000, cuando comenzó a desempeñarse en las divisiones infantiles del club, luego de un inicio en Newell’s Old Boys, donde jugo entre los 7 y los 12 años.

“A pesar de haberse llegado a un acuerdo entre el FC Barcelona y Leo Messi y con la clara intención de ambas partes de firmar un nuevo contrato en el día de hoy, no se podrá formalizar debido a obstáculos económicos y estructurales (normativa de La Liga española)”, indicó la entidad.

“Ante esta situación, Lionel Messi no continuará ligado al FC Barcelona. Las dos partes lamentan profundamente que finalmente no se puedan cumplir los deseos tanto del jugador como del Club”, agregó.

Ya había intenciones de irse

En agosto del año pasado, Messi ya había expresado sus dudas sobre su continuidad ya que le había comunicado al Barcelona a través de un burofax que deseaba abandonar el club de forma inmediata pese a tener contrato en vigor hasta 2021 y una cláusula de rescisión de 700 millones de euros.

En medio de una profunda crisis deportiva después de una temporada llena de penurias, tras reunirse con el entrenador Ronald Koeman resolvió que dejaría de jugar en el Blaugrana.

Finalmente, en septiembre de ese mismo año, el jugador rosarino confirmó que iba a respetar su contrato en Barcelona, con vencimiento en junio de 2021, lo que suponía un vuelco en su decisión después de notificar formalmente al club sobre su intención de irse.

En ese momento se habló de que el 10 estaba en la mira de clubes como el Manchester City, Inter de Milán, la Major League Soccer estadounidense e incluso Newell’s Old Boys.

Ahora con la confirmación de que se va, comienzan las especulaciones en torno al futuro destino del campeón de la Copa América.

Convirtió 672 tantos en total (0,867 de promedio) y brindó 305 asistencias. Es el máximo goleador histórico de Barcelona y del fútbol español.
